Salem and Keizer straddle I-5 in the middle of the Willamette Valley, with the Willamette River along the west side of downtown and Highway 22 running east into the Santiam canyon. Most of the dedicated RV and boat lots are on the east and southeast edges of the city: Bridges RV Storage has two yards on Hazelgreen and Silverton roads, East Salem RV & Boat Storage is on Gaffin Road, and South Salem RV & Storage and Turner Road Storage sit near the Kuebler exit. North of town, Keizer Storage Center and River Road Storage serve Keizer, and I-5 RV & Mini Storage is down the freeway in Jefferson.

Winters here are wet more than frozen, so the main decision is roof versus open sky. East Salem lists back-in and pull-through spaces from $60 a month for 20 feet up to $87 for a 55-foot pull-through. Bridges rents 14x30 covered spaces with power for $175 and fully enclosed units with 12-foot-wide doors from $220 (14x24) to $520 (14x59), and on the check date most of its enclosed sizes at both yards had waiting lists. Several Public Storage branches in northeast Salem also list covered or uncovered RV-length parking and enclosed bay-door units up to 14x40.

Street storage is tightly limited. Salem's parking code (SRC chapter 102, as amended by Ordinance Bill 08-25) bars parking a trailer on a street unless it is hitched to a vehicle, bars any vehicle or vehicle-and-trailer combination over 23 feet long or 8 feet wide from residential streets except while loading, keeps motorized RVs over 20 feet off residential streets from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and limits any vehicle to five days in one spot.

For the river, the city's Wallace Marine Park in West Salem has a paved ramp that the Willamette Water Trail describes as very popular with powerboats. The bigger lake trips go east on Highway 22 to Detroit Lake, an Army Corps reservoir whose ramps depend on the water level: the Corps' Detroit ramp chart shows Mongold usable down to 1,450 feet, while State Park, Hoover, Southshore and Cove Creek need roughly 1,530 to 1,556 feet and Kane's Marina moorage needs 1,546, against a full conservation pool of 1,563.5. Detroit Lake Marina rents pontoons, fishing boats, kayaks and paddleboards and sells gas in season.

Oregon motorboats register on a two-year calendar cycle at $8 plus $5.95 per foot, and anyone running a motorboat over 10 horsepower needs a Boating Safety Education Card. Paddlers need a Waterway Access Permit too: HB 2982 removed the old 10-foot length threshold, so the Marine Board now requires one for non-motorized boats of any length, including kayaks and paddleboards, with a few narrow exceptions.
