Seattle local guide

Seattle is a boating city, with Lake Washington, Lake Union, the Ship Canal and Ballard Locks, and Puget Sound all within city limits. Space is what's scarce. Most RV and boat storage close in is outdoor yard space in industrial areas such as Ballard, Interbay and South Park, and yards fill up. Superior Self Storage in Ballard listed its outdoor RV and boat spaces as full when we checked.

Published prices give a sense of in-city costs. Ferguson Terminal says boats, cars and RVs start at $175 a month, priced by overall length. Superior Self Storage lists outdoor spaces up to 25 feet from $280 a month. Bridge Outside Storage publishes sample rates from $75 for small spots up to $550 for large spaces. Seattle's mild, wet winters mean less freeze risk than east of the Cascades, but moss, mildew and rain make covers and regular checks worthwhile.

Street parking is tightly limited. Seattle's 72-hour ordinance applies to every vehicle on a city street, and on Oct. 20, 2026, KUOW reported that the City Council voted to restrict overnight RV parking further. Check SDOT's current rules before leaving an RV or trailer on any street.

Boating on Washington waters: if your boat is registered in another state, Washington requires an aquatic invasive species (AIS) prevention permit before you launch; WDFW lists the permit at $20 plus transaction fees, valid one year. Parking at state parks and on WDFW and DNR recreation lands requires a Discover Pass, which rose to $45 a year (or $10 a day) on Oct. 1, 2025. State Parks also lists a $7 daily watercraft launch fee and a $5 trailer dump fee, both on top of the Discover Pass, waived if you are camping in that park.

Across our three Seattle guides we currently list 3 storage facilities, 22 RV dump stations, 30 named boat launches and 18 boat rental businesses. Storage details come from each facility’s own website and the date we checked it. Dump stations and ramps come from OpenStreetMap. We never add prices, ratings or availability that a source does not publish.
