Cody local guide
Cody sits at the mouth of the Shoshone River canyon on the road to Yellowstone's east entrance, and its storage is spread along the edges of town. Sky Storage's newer Reesy Road lot is outdoor-only, with 42 spaces from 12x40 to 12x50 feet around a 75- to 100-foot drive aisle, and it publishes rates of $75 to $85 a month. A+ Secure Storage on Robert Street lists outdoor spots for trailers and vehicles up to 25 feet plus 50x12 RV spots at $65 a month, which were on a waiting list on the check date. For a boat or snowmobile you would rather keep under a roof, Cottonwood Storage at the east end of town, a block south of Big Horn Avenue (US 14A), has enclosed units up to 15x50 feet with 80- to 110-foot driveways between buildings.
Most local boating happens on Buffalo Bill Reservoir, west of town along the North Fork Highway. Buffalo Bill State Park lists four launch points: the Lake Shore, Stagecoach and Bartlett Lane docks and ramps, and the Gibbs Bridge raft take-out. The ramps stay open year-round, but the park brings the docks in before the reservoir ices over, and day-use fees apply. The park's two dump stations, at the Lake Shore and North Fork campgrounds, run May through September; from October to April North Fork campground closes and the park turns off all water systems, so plan to winterize at home or in storage rather than at the lake.
Wyoming has strict aquatic invasive species rules. Wyoming Game and Fish requires most watercraft, motorized or not, to display an AIS decal while on the water. Any boat coming into Wyoming between March 1 and November 30 must be inspected by an authorized inspector before it launches, a boat that has been in zebra- or quagga-mussel water within 30 days must be inspected in any month, and anyone hauling a boat must stop at every open check station on the way.
If you don't tow your own boat, Gradient Mountain Sports on Sheridan Avenue rents paddleboards, canoes, rafts and kayaks, including fishing kayaks, and runs guided flatwater and sunset paddleboard trips on Buffalo Bill Reservoir. It names the Shoshone River, Newton Lake and Beck Lake as other local paddling waters. The boat ramps listed below are the public slipways mapped in OpenStreetMap within about 25 miles of Cody, and the dump stations combine OpenStreetMap points with the state park's two seasonal stations.
Across our three Cody guides we currently list 3 storage facilities, 4 RV dump stations, 0 named boat launches and 1 boat rental business. Storage details come from each facility’s own website and the date we checked it. Dump stations come from OpenStreetMap and operators’ own websites; ramps come from OpenStreetMap. We never add prices, ratings or availability that a source does not publish.
