Idaho Falls local guide
Idaho Falls sits on the Snake River where I-15 meets US-20, the highway most eastern Idaho RVers take toward Island Park and West Yellowstone. The river itself runs through town along the greenbelt, with launches such as the Snake River boat launch (locals call it Johns Hole) and South Tourist Park used mostly by kayaks, paddleboards and small fishing boats.
For bigger boats, the nearest lake is Ririe Reservoir, east of town. Bonneville County says only two parks give public access to it: Blacktail Park, a day-use area with a launch, and Juniper Campground, which adds overnight camping with full hookups, mooring slips and docks. Two more parks on the reservoir, Benchland and Willow Point, can only be reached by boat. Day passes are $5, or $10 on weekends and holidays.
Storage options split between dedicated RV lots and self-storage yards. Enclosed bays are the choice if you want your rig out of eastern Idaho's winter snow and wind: South Town Storage on Yellowstone Highway and RV Storage of Idaho Falls on North Holmes Avenue both rent walled bays sized for 40-foot-plus rigs, and United Storage on Sherry Drive has 14x40 covered spaces. Open parking is the budget route, and the county fairgrounds also rents barn space for boats and trailers from November through April, priced per linear foot.
Idaho requires motorized boats and sailboats to be registered with the state, and that registration already includes the invasive species sticker. Boats coming from another state need a $30 Idaho invasive species sticker, and paddle craft need a $7 non-motorized sticker, so out-of-state visitors heading to Ririe or the Snake should buy one before launching.
Across our three Idaho Falls guides we currently list 10 storage facilities, 3 RV dump stations, 1 named boat launch and 2 boat rental businesses.
