Pocatello city guide

Pocatello local guide

Pocatello sits where I-15 meets I-86 along the Portneuf River, home to Idaho State University, with Chubbuck on its northern edge. RV storage is spread around the edges: Rowland on Rowland Road, Bear Box off South 5th Avenue, Northgate and Storage iT on West Go Way, and Oregon Trail RV and Boat Storage out in Tyhee north of Chubbuck.

Covered and enclosed space is available but often full. Rowland lists covered 40-foot bays from $85.50 a month and enclosed 40- and 45-foot bays from $135 and $144, though every size showed a waiting list on the check date. Northgate has newer enclosed 14x39 and 15x44 units with 14-foot doors, and Oregon Trail adds an on-site dump station, water fill and air for tenants.

City code keeps long-term parking off the street. Under Pocatello Chapter 10.42, an RV may sit on the public right-of-way for at most 72 hours while it is loaded or prepared for a trip, a boat trailer has to stay hitched to a registered vehicle, and unhitched trailers are not allowed on the street at all. At home, an RV belongs in a garage, rear yard or side yard first; front-yard parking is a last resort, on a prepared surface, for rigs no larger than 10 by 40 feet.

American Falls Reservoir, west along I-86, is the closest big water. Willow Bay Resort in American Falls rents paddleboards, paddleboats, fishing boats, wakeboard boats and jet skis by the day, and ISU's Outdoor Adventure Center rents rafts, canoes and inflatable kayaks to the community as well as students.

Idaho folds the invasive species fee into boat registration, so a current Idaho registration sticker covers it. Motorized boats registered in another state need a $30 Invasive Species Sticker, and non-motorized boats need a $7 sticker, including those owned by Idaho residents.

Across our three Pocatello guides we currently list 5 storage facilities, 1 RV dump station, 1 named boat launch and 2 boat rental businesses. Storage details come from each facility’s own website and the date we checked it. Dump stations and ramps come from OpenStreetMap. We never add prices, ratings or availability that a source does not publish.
