Los Angeles local guide
Los Angeles has very little dedicated RV and boat storage for a city its size, so where you store usually depends on whether you head for the coast or the freeways out of town. Boat owners on the Westside can apply for Los Angeles County's dry storage in Marina del Rey. EZ Storage on Tennessee Avenue in West LA rents RV and boat spaces, and Valley Indoor RV Storage in Chatsworth runs one of the larger indoor operations in Southern California, at the northwest corner of the San Fernando Valley.
Marina del Rey's county dry storage
The Department of Beaches and Harbors runs three dry storage programs in Marina del Rey. Powerboats up to 40 feet go to Dock 77 on Mindanao Way. Sailboats of 15 to 31 feet are stored mast-up at the public launch ramp on Fiji Way. Dinghies, paddleboards, rowing shells and kayaks are stored at Dock 77, the launch ramp and Mother's Beach. The small-craft program had a waitlist when we checked. New applications are processed only by appointment through the Boating Section office on Mindanao Way, open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except holidays. The county doesn't post rates on that page, so call for cost and availability.
Indoor in the Valley vs a Westside lot
Valley Indoor RV Storage has more than 200,000 square feet in Chatsworth and stores motorhomes, trailers, fifth wheels, boats, jet skis and classic cars both indoors and out. Its RV storage page describes a valet setup: staff park and retrieve your RV, and the facility has 24/7 video surveillance and controlled access. RV business and access hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, so a pre-dawn start to the desert means picking up the day before. Pricing is by quote.
EZ Storage West LA on Tennessee Avenue is the close-in option. It lists access seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and its office closes for lunch from 1 to 2. It doesn't publish RV space sizes or prices, so call. Marina Boat & RV Storage on Lincoln Boulevard is also listed below, but its website didn't load when we checked, so confirm details by phone.
LA's oversize-vehicle restrictions
LAMC section 80.69.4 defines an oversize vehicle as a motor vehicle over 22 feet long or over 84 inches tall. That covers most motorhomes and many trucks towing boats. Where the City Council has approved posted signs, such a vehicle can't park between 2 and 6 a.m. These Oversize Vehicle Restricted Areas are added street by street, so check the signs on your block. According to the city's permit page, residents can buy one-day exemption permits for $10 a day, up to three days at a time. A permit doesn't exempt you from LAMC 80.73.2, which bans leaving any vehicle on a street for 72 or more consecutive hours. LADOT runs the permit program, and HOA and condo rules on driveways are separate, so check your own HOA's rules.
Sun, a short rainy season and marine air
NOAA's 1991-2020 normals for downtown Los Angeles at the USC campus show 14.25 inches of rain a year. About 9.4 inches of it falls from December through February, and July and August average almost none. August is the warmest month, with an average high of 84°F and about 26 days a year at 90°F or hotter. Freezes don't occur at this station on average, though the Valley runs hotter in summer. So the real enemies of a stored RV here are UV on roofs, tires and decals, and salt air on boats kept near the coast. Covers, tire shades and a fresh-water rinse after every ocean trip matter more than winterizing. NOAA climate normals
Launch ramps, rentals and dump stations
Our Los Angeles boat ramps and rentals page lists the launches OpenStreetMap records nearby, including the Davies Launch Ramp in Long Beach. It also covers rentals such as Bluewater Sailing, Paddle House, the Echo Park Lake boathouse and K&H Marine. Los Angeles RV dump stations includes Dockweiler Beach RV Park near the marina and the Golden Shore RV Resort in Long Beach. Other California cities are on the California hub. California boat operators need a California Boater Card from the Division of Boating and Waterways.
Across our three Los Angeles guides we currently list 6 storage facilities, 11 RV dump stations, 3 named boat launches and 8 boat rental businesses, plus 4 marinas. Storage details come from each facility’s own website and the date we checked it. Dump stations and ramps come from OpenStreetMap. We never add prices, ratings or availability that a source does not publish.
