Riverside local guide
Riverside sits at the hub of the Inland Empire's freeways, and that shapes how owners use storage. Lake Perris is southeast via I-215, Lake Elsinore is south down I-15, and the desert, from Palm Springs to the Colorado River, is out I-10. Storage lots line the corridors that feed those routes: The Storage Place, SmartStop and StorQuest are in the La Sierra and Arlington areas off the 91, Orangecrest Self Storage is on Van Buren Boulevard near March Air Reserve Base, and RCMC RV & Boat Storage is in Temescal Valley south of Corona on the way to Lake Elsinore.
Covered, enclosed or outdoor: what Riverside facilities offer
Most Riverside storage is open-air. The Storage Place on Severn Way runs a paved, gated RV and boat lot, and SmartStop on Van Buren Boulevard rents uncovered RV, auto and boat spaces. StorQuest on Magnolia Avenue offers outdoor spaces up to 24 feet, which fits a ski boat or small trailer but not a long fifth wheel. For big rigs, RCMC RV & Boat Storage in Temescal Valley has pull-through spaces from 15 to 60 feet long and up to 12.5 feet wide, plus a dump station. It opened in July 2022.
Enclosed space is limited. Orangecrest Self Storage lists indoor car and RV spaces from 12x26.5 to 12x43, enough for most travel trailers and many Class C motorhomes. None of the five facilities we verified publishes covered canopy parking or posted RV prices on the pages we checked, so call for current rates and ask about move-in specials.
Measure before you call. Length should include the tongue and any rear rack or swim platform, and anything taller than about 13 feet narrows your indoor options.
Access hours and security
Hours differ a lot. The Storage Place opens its gate Monday through Saturday from 8 to 5:30 and Sunday from 9 to 3:30, so an early Saturday launch at Perris needs planning. StorQuest's electronic gate is open seven days a week, with 24-hour surveillance. Ask the other facilities whether they offer after-hours access and whether you can wash or flush tanks on site.
Location matters as much as price. If most of your trips go to Lake Perris or out the 215, a lot near Van Buren Boulevard and Orangecrest saves time on every outing. If you usually head south to Lake Elsinore or toward the coast, Temescal Valley puts you on I-15 with no city traffic, and the La Sierra lots suit anyone using the 91.
Parking an RV or boat at home in Riverside
The City of Riverside's parking FAQ states: "Recreational vehicles are allowed to be parked on the street 24 hours before and 24 hours after a trip." It adds that they "may NOT be stored on any residential street beyond the allotted time." That window is enough to load, unload and clean up, but not for long-term street storage. Corona, Moreno Valley and unincorporated Riverside County have their own rules, and many HOAs ban visible RVs, so check before parking in the driveway.
Inland Empire heat and what it means for storage
NOAA's 1991-2020 normals for Riverside Municipal Airport show average highs of 93.3°F in July and 94.9°F in August, about 100 days a year at 90°F or warmer and about 22 days at 100°F or more. Rain is scarce at 9.37 inches a year, and freezing nights are rare, at about 3.5 a year. That makes UV the main threat: roof seals, tires, decals and vinyl boat seats degrade fastest in an open lot. Tire covers, a reflective windshield cover and regular roof inspections go a long way, and winterizing is rarely needed unless you take the rig to the mountains or desert in winter. Ramps, rentals and other California cities
Our Riverside boat ramps page lists the slipways OpenStreetMap shows within about 40 km of downtown Riverside. To empty tanks, see Riverside RV dump stations, and compare Los Angeles, San Diego and Sacramento on our California hub.
California's Division of Boating and Waterways issues the California Boater Card and publishes state boating laws on its website. Lake operators may require invasive mussel inspections before launch.
Across our three Riverside guides we currently list 6 storage facilities, 9 RV dump stations, 1 named boat launch and 1 boat rental business, plus 1 marina. Storage details come from each facility’s own website and the date we checked it. Dump stations and ramps come from OpenStreetMap. We never add prices, ratings or availability that a source does not publish.
