Fairbanks local guide
Fairbanks boating is river and small-lake boating, centered on the Chena River that runs right through town. Canoe Alaska rents canoes, kayaks and paddleboards for self-guided floats such as the roughly two-hour run from Pioneer Park to Pike's Landing or a 17-mile float on the lower Chena. East of town, the Chena Lake Recreation Area next to North Pole covers about 2,100 acres, with a 260-acre lake at Lake Park and a River Park along 4 miles of the Chena; the lake is stocked with rainbow trout, silver salmon and Arctic char.
The open-water season is short and winters are long, so storage here is mostly about getting a boat or RV out of the snow. Local operators sell heated indoor space by the season (one Fairbanks facility markets October-to-May storage at 50–60°F), and several mini-storage sites offer indoor vehicle parking or units big enough for an RV, alongside cheaper outdoor lots for owners who don't mind snow.
Alaska requires all boats principally used in the state to be registered with the DMV unless specifically exempted. Boats longer than 24 feet must also be titled unless they are documented with the U.S. Coast Guard; boats 24 feet or shorter can be titled optionally. Boats mainly used in another state must be registered there instead.
Across our three Fairbanks guides we currently list 5 storage facilities, 2 RV dump stations, 0 named boat launches and 2 boat rental businesses. Storage details come from each facility’s own website and the date we checked it. Dump stations and ramps come from OpenStreetMap. We never add prices, ratings or availability that a source does not publish.
