Raleigh local guide
Raleigh's boating splits between two big Army Corps of Engineers reservoirs. Falls Lake runs along the city's northern edge from Wake Forest toward Durham, and Jordan Lake lies southwest past Apex and New Hill. The storage on this page follows that split: StorageMax on Rowland Road, A-1 Personal Storage on Durant Road and Gilcrest Farm in Wake Forest are on the Falls Lake side, while Land Hunter Storage runs two enclosed facilities in Apex and New Hill aimed at Jordan Lake campers and boaters.
Covered, enclosed or outdoor: what Raleigh facilities offer
Enclosed storage is the standout here, and Land Hunter Storage posts its prices. At the Apex location, enclosed units rent for $195 a month for 12x25, $230 for 12x30 and $385 for 15x40. At New Hill, a 12x32 unit is $230 and a 13x40 unit is $330. All enclosed units have light and power and concrete floors, which help keep ground moisture away from tires and hulls, and the large entry doors make backing in a camper easier.
For open-air parking on the north side, StorageMax offers RV and boat parking at its Rowland Road site, and A-1 Personal Storage on Durant Road rents uncovered spaces for RVs, cars and boats a few minutes from Falls Lake. Gilcrest Farm Boat and RV Storage in Wake Forest adds an on-site winterizing service, useful given how many freezing nights the Triangle gets.
We did not find covered canopy storage with published details among the facilities we verified, and the open-lot operators quote prices by phone, so compare by calling with your rig's length and height.
Access hours and security
StorageMax keeps its Rowland Road gate open 24 hours inside a fully fenced lot, which works for early launches. Gilcrest Farm uses an electronic gate and cameras. Land Hunter publishes rules and regulations that every renter must follow; read them before you sign, especially if you plan to work on the rig on site. For any lot, ask whether you can plug in a battery maintainer and whether the gate code changes.
Pick the side of town that matches your trips. The Durant Road, Rowland Road and Wake Forest lots keep you minutes from Falls Lake and the US-1 and I-540 corridors, while the Apex and New Hill units sit close to Jordan Lake's campgrounds and ramps, which saves a cross-town tow through Cary every weekend.
Parking an RV or boat at home in Raleigh
Raleigh's parking FAQ states: "It is against city ordinance to park a boat trailer or any other type of trailer on a city street except for temporary active loading or unloading." On private property, neighborhoods mapped in a Special Residential Parking Overlay District face extra limits under UDO Section 5.6.1. In an SRPOD, no vehicle, including a motorized recreation vehicle, camper or boat trailer, may be parked in the front yard outside approved parking surfaces except while loading or washing, and a temporary front-yard permit is limited to 90 days once every three years. Outside an overlay, HOA covenants often add their own bans, so check your deed restrictions.
Triangle weather and what it means for storage
NOAA's 1991-2020 normals for Raleigh-Durham International Airport show a July average high of 90.8°F, about 52 days a year at 90°F or warmer and only about 2 days at 100°F. Winters bring regular freezes: January averages 51.9°F by day and 31.8°F at night, and the airport records about 65 nights a year at or below freezing, along with about 5.2 inches of snow. Precipitation totals 46.07 inches a year. That mix means a real winterizing routine for plumbing and outboards each fall, plus covers and moisture control in the humid summer. NOAA climate normals
Ramps, rentals and other North Carolina cities
Our Raleigh boat ramps page lists slipways and paddle launches OpenStreetMap shows within about 40 km, along with boat rentals mapped nearby. To empty tanks, see Raleigh RV dump stations, and compare Charlotte and Mooresville on our North Carolina hub.
The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission handles boat registration, boating education and many public boating access areas; see its boating page.
Across our three Raleigh guides we currently list 5 storage facilities, 2 RV dump stations, 8 named boat launches and 2 boat rental businesses. Storage details come from each facility’s own website and the date we checked it. Dump stations and ramps come from OpenStreetMap. We never add prices, ratings or availability that a source does not publish.
