Jacksonville local guide
Jacksonville is a river town first. The St. Johns River runs north through the middle of the city before turning east to the Atlantic at Mayport, and the Intracoastal Waterway cuts across it near the beaches. That geography splits the storage market. Duval Storage JAX serves the Northside near the airport and I-95, Super Toys Storage is on Western Way on the Southside, and RecNation runs a lot on Greenland Road plus two facilities on Old Dixie Highway in the Ponte Vedra Beach ZIP code near Nocatee, a short tow from the Intracoastal ramps in Ponte Vedra and Palm Valley.
Covered, enclosed or outdoor: what Jacksonville facilities offer
Duval Storage JAX publishes the simplest price list in town, priced by length rather than space size: $100 a month for anything up to 20 feet, $125 for 20 to 40 feet and $150 for anything longer. It also rents by the day for $30 or by the week for $100, which helps visitors staging a trip or locals waiting on a dock repair. RecNation lists outdoor 12x36 spaces on Greenland Road from $186 a month.
For shade, RecNation's covered 12x40 spaces at 11305 Old Dixie Highway start at $360 a month. Its neighboring facility at 11325 Old Dixie Highway lists indoor 12x36 units from $383. That premium buys protection from the summer sun and the salt air that drifts inland from the beaches.
At the top end, Super Toys Storage offers fully enclosed, climate-controlled and fire-protected space with 110-volt power, aimed at motorcoaches, boats and collector cars. It quotes rates individually rather than posting them, so call with your length and height.
Access hours and security
Duval Storage JAX and Super Toys Storage both advertise around-the-clock access: 24/7 at Duval Road and 24-hour access at Super Toys. That matters on the First Coast, where offshore anglers often launch before sunrise to beat afternoon storms. Ask any facility how it handles hurricane prep, whether it lets you move a boat out early when a storm is forecast and whether it requires proof of insurance.
Parking an RV or boat at home in Jacksonville
The City of Jacksonville's zoning FAQ answers this directly: "Usually, in residential zoning districts, boats, RV's and utility trailers are required to be parked behind or beside your house. They must meet the front yard setback." In practice, a boat on a trailer in the driveway in front of the house can draw a code complaint, while the side or back yard is usually fine. Many neighborhoods in Nocatee, Mandarin and the beaches also have HOA covenants that ban visible boats altogether, which is a big reason storage near the Intracoastal fills up.
Jacksonville heat, rain and hurricanes: what they mean for storage
NOAA's 1991-2020 normals for Jacksonville International Airport show a July average high of 91.9°F and about 80 days a year at 90°F or warmer. Winters are mild, with January averaging 65.5°F by day and 42.9°F at night, though the airport still averages about 14 nights at or below freezing. Rain is the bigger issue: 53.40 inches a year, with June (7.60 inches) and September (7.56 inches) the wettest months. Humidity and frequent summer storms mean covers, roof seals and bilge pumps need regular checks, and the Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, so plan where your boat will ride out a storm.
