Grand Junction is the Western Slope's hub, where the Colorado and Gunnison rivers meet and I-70 runs west toward Utah. Most RV and boat storage lines up along that corridor: several yards sit on 21 1/2 and 22 Road near I-70 exit 26, Tall Grass Drive has both an outdoor lot at Sundance Marine & RV and fully enclosed units at the separate Sundance Storage, and Fruita, just west, adds covered parking on US-6.
The closest lake for power boats is Highline Lake State Park near Loma. Colorado Parks and Wildlife describes a 160-acre reservoir open to power boating, jet skiing and water skiing from March 1 through September 30, then closed from October 1 to February 28 as a resting area for migratory birds. Trailered boats launch at the West Boat Ramp and must be inspected for aquatic nuisance species before launching and after pulling out. Neighboring Mack Mesa Lake is limited to hand-launched craft and electric motors.
Because Highline closes from October through February, boats here sit for months each year, and several yards post their prices: Dan's Parkway charges by length, Junction West's lot runs $50 to $70 a month, and Red Rock offers 40-foot spaces with an RV dump and water station on site. If you want walls and a roof against summer sun and winter freeze, Sundance Storage and both Parkway Secure Storage locations offer indoor RV and boat units.
Colorado residents must register motorized boats and sailboats each year with Parks and Wildlife, valid January 1 to December 31, plus a $25 aquatic nuisance species stamp. Visiting boats can run on their home-state registration for up to 60 days, but need a $50 nonresident ANS stamp.
