Durango local guide
Durango sits in the Animas River valley where US-550 meets US-160. Lake Nighthorse is about 5 miles from downtown, and Vallecito Lake is to the northeast. Most RV and boat storage is along those highways: Coyote Storage on Camino del Rio in town, Animas Mini Storage and South Fork Storage out US-160, Durango RV & Boat Storage on CO-172, and Ace RV Boat and Mini Storage near Bayfield.
Durango RV & Boat Storage has the tallest covered spaces in the area, 45 feet long with 14 feet of clearance, starting at $300 a month, and uncovered spaces from $120. Coyote Storage, one mile from Lake Nighthorse, rents 15x40 uncovered spaces for $75. Animas Mini Storage takes rigs up to 40 feet, and its on-site manager plows snow daily in winter.
In May 2026 Durango City Council adopted a fine schedule for RVs, boats and other recreational craft parked on public streets, the Durango Herald reported. They may stay 72 hours in any seven-day period, and moving to another space doesn't reset the clock. Fines are $50, $100 and $250, and a fourth offense makes the vehicle eligible for impoundment.
Lake Nighthorse is run by the City of Durango. It requires a day or season pass, runs a ballasted-boat decontamination station on set days, and closes for the winter wildlife season from November 16. Colorado requires an Aquatic Nuisance Species stamp on every motorboat and sailboat before it launches.
Vallecito Marina & Yacht Club rents pontoons, fishing boats, kayaks and SUPs and leases seasonal slips up to 32 feet. 4Corners Riversports runs a first-come rental tent at Lake Nighthorse in summer.
Across our three Durango guides we currently list 5 storage facilities, 1 RV dump station, 0 named boat launches and 2 boat rental businesses, plus 1 marina. Storage details come from each facility’s own website and the date we checked it. Dump stations and ramps come from OpenStreetMap. We never add prices, ratings or availability that a source does not publish.
