Yuma sits on the lower Colorado River where Arizona meets California and Mexico, with I-8 crossing town between the Foothills on the east side and Winterhaven across the river. Boaters mostly head upstream: the Imperial Dam area and Martinez Lake lie north of town off US-95 and Imperial Dam Road, along the stretch where Imperial National Wildlife Refuge protects 30 miles of river habitat on 25,768 acres.

Desert sun shapes the storage market. Enclosed drive-up units are common, and several facilities publish real dimensions and rates. Premier Storage 2 lists 14-foot-tall units from 14x40 at $250 a month up to 80-foot drive-through units, Solar Storage on 32nd Street posts insulated 14x47 units at $270 that it says fit a 42-foot rig, and Premier Storage Condos in the Foothills rents or sells enclosed units up to 20x80. Open lots are cheaper: S & S Storage lists 45-foot RV spaces at $60 a month and Premier Storage 2 has 50-foot outdoor spaces at $75.

Yuma draws many winter visitors who travel by RV, and parks such as Glenaire also store rigs on site, either in the guest's own space during the off-season or in covered and open storage. Dump stations are common at the storage yards themselves, including Premier Storage 2, Foothills Self Storage, Pink Door and StorWise.

On the water, Martinez Lake Resort rents docks by the year, month or day behind a coded gate and offers 25-foot pontoon, kayak and paddleboard rentals, while Hidden Shores near Imperial Dam rents boat docks and runs launch ramps. Yuma Adventures rents kayaks for river trips closer to town.

Arizona Game and Fish registers all motorboats, including canoes and inflatables fitted with an electric motor. A boat registered in another state can run on Arizona water for 90 days; after that it needs an Arizona number, which matters for snowbirds who spend the whole winter here.
