Cleveland local guide
Cleveland boats on Lake Erie and on the last stretch of the Cuyahoga River, where it winds through the Flats to the lake. Downtown, North Coast Harbor at the foot of East 9th Street is where rental electric boats leave from, and full-service yards on the river, such as Riverfront Marine, handle haul-outs and winter layup. The storage on this page sits on that river, on Lee Road on the city's southeast side, and near the airport in Brook Park.
Because the season is short and winters are cold, storage here is mostly about the months the boat is out of the water. Riverfront Marine on Carter Road keeps heated indoor space at no less than 45°F and prices it by the square foot, with cheaper cold indoor storage and outdoor yard space by the linear foot, plus shrink-wrapping and mast-up storage for sailboats on steel cradles. Its indoor buildings are on a waitlist for new boats for the 2026-27 winter, so plan early. We Store It on Lee Road rents heated bays up to 48 feet with unlimited in-and-out access and publishes flat rates for 25 and 50 foot spaces. Storage 52 in Brook Park parks vehicles inside for owners and keeps batteries on tenders through the winter.
For a day on the water without towing, Great Lakes Watersports rents a self-drive Barletta pontoon from its dock on Sycamore Street, across from the Greater Cleveland Aquarium. Renters must stay inside the Cleveland Crib, and the company won't charge overtime when the NS-1 bridge delays a return. Cleveland Duffy Boat Rentals sends its boats out of North Coast Harbor to cruise inside the breakwall and up the Cuyahoga.
Boating in Ohio: anyone born on or after January 1, 1982 needs an approved boater education course or proficiency exam to operate a boat powered by more than 10 horsepower, and Great Lakes Watersports offers a temporary-license test at no charge. OpenStreetMap does not map a public RV dump station within about 25 miles of downtown yet, so that section is still in progress. Ramps below come from OpenStreetMap.
Across our three Cleveland guides we currently list 6 storage facilities, 3 named boat launches and 3 boat rental businesses. Storage details come from each facility’s own website and the date we checked it. Dump stations and ramps come from OpenStreetMap. We never add prices, ratings or availability that a source does not publish.
