Sacramento local guide
Sacramento grew up where the American River runs into the Sacramento River, and that confluence at Discovery Park, just north of downtown, is still the city's main launch for river boating. Downstream lie the channels of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, and the other big draw is Folsom Lake, the reservoir in the foothills northeast of the city. Two of the four storage options sit within about a mile of Discovery Park off Richards Boulevard: Discovery Indoor Boat & RV Storage on Commerce Circle and Valet Storage. River City Indoor is on Belvedere Avenue in the southeast of the city, and 24th Street Storage is in South Sacramento.
Valley summers are the main reason Sacramento owners store indoors. Discovery Indoor points to paint oxidation and cracked tires from hot summer days, rain spots in winter and rodents chewing wiring, and its 113,000-square-foot building has cameras, an alarm and sprinklers. Valet Storage keeps its building temperature-controlled, charges boat batteries, has a dump station and posts its monthly boat rates, from $210 under 18 feet to $420 at 40 feet. River City runs a valet model where staff set up and close down your RV and you book pickups online, and 24th Street offers both indoor and outdoor spaces across more than 80,000 square feet.
Folsom Lake is a reservoir, and its level drops through late summer. Folsom Lake Marina Rentals, which rents pontoons from Brown's Ravine, closed its 2026 calendar and pulls its boats around September 1 as the water falls. Folsom Lake Funships rents double-decker pontoons by the half or full day and can add a captain.
Boating in California: motorized vessels are registered with the California DMV, and since January 1, 2025 every operator of a motorized vessel needs a California Boater Card, earned by passing an approved boating safety course, with exemptions such as rental boats. Ramps and dump stations below come from OpenStreetMap.
Across our three Sacramento guides we currently list 4 storage facilities, 5 RV dump stations, 9 named boat launches and 3 boat rental businesses. Storage details come from each facility’s own website and the date we checked it. Dump stations and ramps come from OpenStreetMap. We never add prices, ratings or availability that a source does not publish.
